Fan Yuejin, President and Secretary of the Party Committee of Qingdao University met Dr.Suzanne Lenhartn, Deputy Director of National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis in the evening of June 2nd, and awarded her Emeritus Professor of Qingdao University.
Mr. Fan said that Dr.Lenhart’s engagement as emeritus professor will promote the development of related areas such as biology and mathematics, and play an important role on the disciplinary constructions of Qingdao University.
Dr.Lenhart gave a lecture later that day on “Research,Education,and Outreach at the Interface of Math and Biology.” Ding Wandi, Associate Professor of Middle Tennessee State University, also gave a lecture on “Optimal Control in Models of Management of Forest Resources.”
Graduated from University of Kentucky in 1981, Dr.Suzanne Lenhart is the first doctoral student of Lawrence C. Evans, the world-leading expert on Partial Differential Equation. Currently, she is Chancellor’s Professor of Tennessee State University, Deputy Director of theNIMBioSand a part-timeresearch fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.She had served as President of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) from2001 to 2003.
