During the conference, a cooperation framework agreement was signed by QDU and the Qingdao Health Planning Commission. An agreement on a donation for setting up the QDU Medical Education Development Foundation was also signed by QDU and Mr He Wei, general manager of Qingdao Growful Pharmaceutical Enterprise Co. Ltd of Shanghai Pharmaceuticals. The university also presented plaques to the schools of clinical medicine and letters of appointment to the deans. The QDU Medical Innovation Alliance was established and the signing ceremony on the cooperation accord of the alliance was held.
In his speech, Mr Fan said the development of medical science was of vital importance in building “world-class disciplines and world-class university” for QDU, and that such development would have an important impact on both Qingdao City and the entire Shandong Province. He viewed the establishment of the Medical Department as inevitable to make education and research in medical science grow in tandem. Such a department also serves as a crucial platform for the coordinated development of the various medical disciplines, as well as supporting the schools of clinical medicine in their effort to rationalise the management system and speed up reform. Mr Fan also expressed the hope that the Medical Department, various schools and subsidiary hospitals could cement their cooperation, and that medical discipline, education and services could enjoy rapid, sustainable progress.
Currently, the Medical Department of QDU comprises six schools and three faculties, i.e., the School of Basic Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy and School of Nursing and the Faculty of -Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medical Examinations and Faculty of Imaging Medicine. Under QDU, there are one National Key Discipline (ophthalmology), one National Key Cultivating Discipline (physiology), five Provincial Key Disciplines in the 12th Five-Year Plan, 15 Provincial key laboratories and 10 research institutes. There are also seven subsidiary hospitals, five teaching hospitals and over 18,000 beds for teaching practice.
