Kenneth Fulton, Provost of Florida International University, and Vice-provost Lu Peng visited Qingdao University on March 22 and 23, and Qingdao University President Fan Yuejin met with them.
Fan Yuejin spoke highly of the friendly cooperation between the two universities, and expressed hopes to continue strengthening cooperation and expanding the scope of substantial cooperation for more achievements during their talk on the evening of April 22 in the Minxing Building. Qingdao University Vice-president Wang Liming and President Assistant Zhou Xiaoli also attended the meeting.
Wang Liming talked with Kenneth Fulton and Lu Peng on the next day in the Office Building. Both sides reached a consensus on a number of issues: joint training of undergraduate Spanish majors, promotion of exchange programs for graduate students in related specialties, expansion of the functions of the Latin American Centre in Qingdao University, enhancement of the exchanges and cooperation between teachers of Spanish, and the establishment of labs. Heads of related departments and colleges including International Programs, Graduate School, College of Law, College of Political Science and Public Administration attended the meeting.
Qingdao University signed cooperative agreements with Florida International University in 2012. Both universities have jointly offered a Spanish major program since 2014, enrolling about 100 arts and science students annually. Latin American Centre of Qingdao University established by the two universities was inaugurated in July, 2015.
